Featured Artist - Dee Burt Holmes
Dee Burt Homes, a fine arts printmaker, has exhibited fine art prints in galleries, juried art shows and by special invitation in Huntsville, Alabama, national and international exhibitions. Holme's early interest in art began with water colors and evolved to oil paintings. In 1995 she was introduced to the fine art of print making. She quickly became fascinated with the creative challenge involved in the hand-pulled, etching based fine art printmaking process.

Holmes has a passion for the image etched on the metal plates that produce visual qualities that are significantly different from those of a directly drawn or painted image. She creatively combines this unique visual quality with the finesse of hank inking the plate and the nuances that appear in the hand-pulled print to create an original work of art. Her final prints are created in black and white, sepia tones, plate based coloring or hand coloring. She selects handmade papers on which to print the images. She combines these elements in the printmaking process to create images that engage the viewer in the intricate details of her work with a desire to stimulate emotions in the viewer.

Holmes fine art prints include images collected from her travels in the United States, France, Italy, Greece and England. She travels with a camera, sketch book and a set of water colors. Scenes that stimulate her imagination include: the aesthetics of rainy day reflections, the drama of shadowy landscapes, and the mystery of historical ruins and well-known landmarks.

Dee Burt Holmes graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor of Science degree and studied printmaking at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. She is currently a member of the Mid-American Print Council, Exposicio del Mini Print Internacional de Cadaques in Spain, and the Huntsville Art League. In 2003 she had four mini-prints accepted in an international competition in Cadaques, Spain, which also toured in France and England. Her work is in the permanent collections of the Town Hall in Laurel Park, North Carolina; the Mid-America Print Council; The University of Alabama in Huntsville; Huntsville Hospital and personal collectors in the United States and France. She has received numerous awards for her work and has participated in many juried shows. She was selected as the Panoply poster artist for 2004.
